How much time does your teen spend in front of the computer?

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

My teens used to be able to stay in front of the computer for about an hour a day. They either surf the web, blog, listen to music, read and send emails. However, a month ago, I happened to check on my daughter’s blog in My Space and was saddened to see some inappropriate posts - from her and from some of her “friends”. Since then, their computer time has been limited and MONITORED. I guess I was just not expecting something inappropriate coming from my daughter’s thoughts …. am I in denial ?

when they grow up?

I often talk to my teens to see if their plans have changed about what they wish to be when they grow up. My daughter is still adamant about becoming a chef. She has been saying this for 2 years now so I think she is pretty serious. She loves to bake and prepare food, but, I have to get her to like “cleaning up”. That’ll take a lot of work.

Are your teens involved in any activities?

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

I personally think that extracurricular activities are very important for our teens to take part in. It gives them a chance enhance what they are good and and to work with others on something that they truly enjoy.

My 15 year old daughter is an usher in church, an ROTC Cadet and also a cheerleader. She loves all of these activities but the thing that she enjoys the most is meeting new people and working as a team with others.

What are your children interested in?

It is Fireworks Season.. be sure you and your teens are safe

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

My 15 year old daughter has already made plans to go down to the National Mall here in Washington, DC and watch the amazing Fireworks display.

Here is something that you may not know: Did you know that over half of the individuals that burnt and/or injured by fireworks each year are under 16? YIKES! I don’t like those statistics at all.
