It is Fireworks Season.. be sure you and your teens are safe

By Aurelia | July 3, 2006

Hey there Moms - Can you believe that the 4th of July is just about here. I know that most teens are very excited about out the holiday and they love to light fireworks and watch them. My 15 year old daughter has already made plans to go down to the National Mall here in Washington, DC and watch the amazing Fireworks display.

Here is something that you may not know: Did you know that over half of the individuals that burnt and/or injured by fireworks each year are under 16? YIKES! I don’t like those statistics at all.

Many Fireworks accidents can be avoided by following the tips that I have listed below.

  • Be sure to keep all fireworks in their original sealed box and always keep them out of reach from young children.
  • All fireworks should be lit at arm’s length using a firework lighter and be sure that after you ignite the fireworks that you stand back as far as you can.
  • Fireworks should NEVER be thrown.
  • Those beautiful sparklers that everyone loves should not be given to children under the age of six. So be sure to keep your younger siblings away.
  • While most teens think that they are grown (smile) they actually should not light fireworks without an adult present.

I hope that you all have a very safe, fun and fantastic 4th!!
