Chaperoning wasn’t all that bad …
Wednesday, September 27th, 2006->
A few days ago, I volunteered to chaperone my daughter’s choir (of 35 teen girls) to their yearly retreat. I was very hesitant at first because I didn’t know what to expect. I have chaperoned on field trips before for younger kids (when my teens were smaller and with my 8 year olds class). Chaperoning little kids was ok - because they are still afraid of parents … So, I didn’t know what to expect in this teen choir retreat. All I know was- it was going to be a noisy weekend.
School is in session, so what about that SAT exam?
Wednesday, September 20th, 2006The SAT that our teens take today isn’t like the one we took years ago.
Did you know that in March 2005, the SAT became a longer, more challenging, and a lot different? The SAT is now 3 hours and 45 minutes long. What was known as the Verbal Section has been renamed Critical Reading and the Analogies questions have been eliminated and replaced with Short Reading Passages.
An SAT Writing Section has been added, which contains multiple-choice grammar questions and a 25-minute written essay. Finally, the Math Section has been expanded to include three years of high school math — in other words, it now includes harder questions in the area of algebra II.
Parenting My Teen Podcast - have you tuned in yet?
Monday, September 18th, 2006My friend, Aurelia Williams launched her Parenting my Teen Podcast today, Sept. 18 - I am sooooo excited and happy for her. She did an awesome job and I am so proud of her. If you have a teen - or know of any mom who has teen children - you gotta listen to the podcast. You can listen by clicking here.
This week her topic is Teen Depression - such an important issue - I just finished listening to the show and it had great information. The show is short but informative - so you can listen while you work or you can download the mp3 and listen to it later.
Do you volunteer in your teen’s school or activities?
Thursday, September 14th, 2006I do - I enjoy helping out in my kids’ school. My kids like it when I help out - they know that their activities are important to me and I like that I see them in action. This year I am volunteering in my daughter’s choir - as a chaperone for trips. Actually this weekend is my first trip with the girls - yikes that is 35 teenage girls - luckily, I am not the only mom volunteering - 2 other moms are - we’ll see how it goes. I’ll make sure to post about the weekend - it’s actually a retreat - I wonder if I’ll be stressed out.
Hi - Most are celebrating Labor Day Weekend…
Friday, September 1st, 2006this weekend and I know that many families or either laying low due to the rains up and down the east coast or they are hitting the roads.
What are you and your family doing for the long weekend? My teen daughter and I made a date to see the move Step Up again. We really enjoyed it the 1st time. It was so refreshing to see a movie geared towards teens that didn’t have a lot of violence, cussing and sexual innuendoes
in it.
Whatever your plans are for this weekend, I hope you hug those Teens and enjoy!
