Do your teens still go trick or treating?

Tuesday, October 24th, 2006

Well - my teens are still looking forward to trick or treating this Halloween. Last year they still went with their younger brother and dad around the neighborhood to trick or treat while I stayed at home handing out candy. My 15 year old daughter is actually still into dressing up and being is a fun costume … 2 years ago we spent Halloween in Hawaii and she was dressed as a 20’s flapper girl … last year, she wore the same costume as no one saw it here anyway (as were in Hawaii the previous year). This year, she is just dressing up as a catholic school girl. My 14 year old son did the same thing - he just wears masks during Halloween - he wore the same mask 2 years in a row. I am not sure what he will dress up as this year. They both still look forward to this years trick or treating.

Have you had a chance to get to know the parents of your children’s friends?

So many parents of teens skip this important part of parenting. Not only is it important to meet the friends your teenager has but it is equally important to meet their parents as well.

What do you do when your teen becomes violent?

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

I was so disappointed and upset last night. My 2 teenagers - daughter (15y) and son (14y) started fighting. It was different from the usual arguing - they started having fun - messing around and giggling and then I don’t know what happened … they started yelling and they came to me screaming. I sent them to their respective rooms to cool off as I was making dinner … then I heard banging on the walls - I sent my 8 year old to check up on them - only to find out that my daughter and son were pushing and shoving each other and just hitting each other. I was furious. Luckily, my husband just got home as I was stopping my teens from hurting each other even more. Dad dealt with them this time - he spoke to them -a sermon really - and now … they are grounded for 2 weeks.
