Babysitting as A Teen After School Activity
By Mother | September 27, 2007
Babysitting has always been a great way for teens to earn a few dollars. Babysitting helps teens learn more about responsibilty, understanding, caring and most importanty - being able to think quickly in case of an emergency.
Little children look up to teens as their role models. Teens who enjoy caring for little children are good candidates for babysitters. Having younger siblings to watch is good training for these teens. It gives them some kind of experience when they help care for their younger siblings. Babysitting, however, is not an easy job. It requires lots of patience. Your teen will be able to tell if this “gig” is not for them after the first couple times they try to babysit a young child. Your teen may realize that babysitting is only for those who are “mature” in thinking - because they have to be in control.
If your teen wants to get started in babysitting, try asking around your neighborhod to see if anyone in the area needs babysitters. Asking parents they know if they require the services of a babysitter is the first step which can lead to references for future babysitting jobs. If your teen is interested, a great way to advertise is to place flyers in supermarkets and local convenience stores in the neighborhood. Word of mouth works just as well, too. In fact, they may also be able to advise the parent coordinator in their school that they are available.
If your teen enjoys taking care of little kids and is creative in keeping the little ones occupied and entertained, then this may be a great after school job to have. It’s an awesome way to earn extra cash - especially for the holiday season. In the summer - they can work more hours and earn more money.
