Cruel MySpace Hoax drives teen to Suicide

By Mother | November 29, 2007

I came across this sad news this morning as I turned the TV on. Such sad news about a teenage girl who was a victim of a MySpace Hoax. Her name was Megan Meier. She was befriended by a “fake” teenage boy in MySpace - who’s profile on MySpace was created by her neighbor’s mom. From what I heard on TV and what I read online, the teen had a falling out with the neighbor’s daughter. The neighbor mom decided to create a profile of a “fake” teen boy to get back at Megan. They had been communicating through MySpace for a few weeks until the fake teen boy decided to be mean to Megan which ultimately led the teenage girl to hang herself inside her closet. This is a very disturbing story especially for those parents with teen children who are so into “MySpace”.

They were talking about this on the radio this morning. Too sad! The mom didn’t set a very good lesson for her daughter on how to deal with conflict. Heart breaking.

I am sick to death reading this story. I can’t believe there is no charge that can be filed against the impersonator.

That mom should be hung in jail. What a disturbing story. Thank you so much for sharing it. My son is almost 10 years old now. they are getting into more internet things these days, so the more I am educated about the better.

What a sad story. It seems like the young lady had some self-esteem issues and the mom was a very immature and perhaps had mental issues. My Space and Facebook should be supervised by parents, if possible. How scary. Thanks for sharing.
